Attack Potency vs Split Durability

I want to discuss this once more, I will present evidence as well:

I don't believe in this split durability because it isn't an accurate portrayal of how DB is. Them being strong against ki attacks is a fluke due to the fact they are supposed to use ki to inflict even more damage or either finish the fight. They physically fight because its a preferred method of combat and can utilize their striking power, speed and technique all in one go. But the idea of split durability stems from the area of effect (aoe) done. This makes, not just Dragon Ball weak, but a lot of characters such as Thanos, Galactus or even Superman.

Attack potency however justifies a lot of stuff. We see Frieza pop planet Vegeta in his first form, and then later in life we see him state, post destroying Namek's core, that the planet's explosion would inflict some damage. A planet explosion isn't ki related either so I'm lowballing right now, but Super Saiyan Goku was able to make the tyrant spew blood and even KO'd him once Frieza tried to backstab him. Regardless if Frieza can survive crazy things, he still noted he'd take damage from the planet's explosion and wasn't truly worried about it.

So Frieza equals planet level durability and Super Saiyan Goku was able to hurt him physically and with ki. But he didn't destroy the planet you say? If his punches hurt Frieza, he's undoubtedly attacking with the potency of at least planet level and here's why. Goku can strike to inflict that amount damage but its doesn't reflect in his aoe. So sure, he kicked Frieza into a couple of islands or whatever but that doesn't matter cause it's not showing him hurt Frieza cause he can withstand planetary explosions so a kick to a couple of islands isn't gonna reflect that.

It's only a problem if you apply it to everything. characters like superman are different. we know that his punches are planet level because of statements. so theres more than just environmental damage to consider

with dbz thats not neccessarily the case. they can lift blasts that weigh enough to crush the planet but they cant do that with normal objects. thats an indication right there they deal with the force of blasts better

split durability doesnt ignore the fact that theyre deflecting those blasts with their hands. it explains why theyre able to that. it doesnt make sense that theyre able to do that without split durability

goku isnt like superman. outside of the environmental destruction we see, there isnt anything to gauge how hard they are punching. we cant use the scenes where they deflect planet busting blasts because theyre questionable since weve seen that they dont deal with normal objects as well

I don't get this whole 'ki weight' thing. I thought the force was all that caused damage but they don't have a physical weight unlike punches and kicks

their blasts have concussive force. force is pretty much the same as weight

There's a filler scene that has Vegeta destroying asteroids with ki blasts and this backs what I theorized too yesterday. He can punch them but the weight itself would flatten him, this suggest their punches' aoe aren't planet or even asteroid level but the infliction of damage would still be present, only difference is the object won't feel it.

thats not a good example. hes not just using ki blasts just because the aoe of punches would be lacking(although i do agree thats probably one of the reasons) hes blasting them because he can destroy them from a distance that way. youre implying that he can punch just as hard as the blasts he's using to destroy them just without the aoe but what is the evidence of that? that he can deflect a planet busing blast? youre just going in circles now because that isnt solid evidence to begin with

The evidence lies within Frieza. The damage from a planet exploding didn't kill him, he was just knocked out. Trunks was able to still hurt him despite his durability being that high, even Goku was. How can they do that if their punches are what island level?

Vegeta used the ki blasts cause he needed to, and he had to fend off a storm of em. That's all there is to it.

I think there's no need to discuss this sort of thing since Toriyama didn't really put into consideration any of these things all that much, if at all.

We only see a respectable amount of damage being caused by physical strength once in the manga.

In the anime we see lots of those however (Buu's fight with Goku for example, where we see moon-sized craters being formed by their punches), and you can use them if you want, right now canonicity in DB is confusing, and has been for a while, but even moreso now thanks to Super, so I guess using stuff from the anime isn't going to bother anyone.

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Trunks' sword should not be compared to punches and kicks by soneone with similar power. Or any power for that matter.

I wanna see you use Trunks sword and trying to cut Frieza then. Tell me, you think you can replicate that same scenario?

No, I'm not Trunks. He is much stronger and faster than me. But I don't think Trunks slicing Freeza with his sword equals someone with his level of ki and strength being able to have punches that equal that of a planet exploding in force. A sword is capable of much more than a fist.

Good point but if that's so, the sword is being used beyond the capacity of a fist so this simply is scaled off the punch since it's superior. And last I checked, Goku's fist made Frieza bled, when the planet just knocked him out.

Freeza was floating in space with some of his body being in fragments and floating near him. With the way it looked, I believe the planet did that rather than Goku's final blast. I think it did more than knock him out, I think it took him from 20% to less than 1%, so to speak.

i know but i think ive mentioned this before. a planet explosion is gigantic omnidirectional blast. we cant say for certain that frieza took all the force of that blast. so mountain+ level for ssj goku and frieza seems fitting

O Me Ga'd- Goku defeated Frieza with his last attack, but the planet added more damage to him. This doesn't mean much though cause he still survived it.

Ssj3Vegito96- Still, a feat though normally speaking a normal person in real life would be dead from something as drastic as that. Where did you arrive at mountain+ level? Goku and Vegeta as Super Saiyan 2s are at that range, area of effect wise, but their potency is solar system level.
